The San Francisco Department of Public Health temporarily shut down Glen Park grocery store Canyon Market on Wednesday because of a rodent infestation. The store's owner, Janet Tarlov, blamed the rat problem on a neighbor leaving large piles of birdseed at the nearby BART station, reported the San Francisco Chronicle (SFGATE and the San Francisco Chronicle are both owned by Hearst but operate independently of one another).?
The Glen Park resident has allegedly been scattering pounds of birdseed to feed pigeons at the Glen Park BART station and parking lot since February 2020, according to the Glen Park Association. Despite Tarlov's ongoing requests for help from the health department since the issue began, the resident reportedly continues to dump birdseed. And it appears to have brought a rat problem to the neighborhood.?
